Getting Started with Sheet
Sheet is an online spreadsheet application that allows you to create, edit, and collaborate on spreadsheets from your laptops, desktops, and mobile devices.
Note
The Sheet application will be available based on the policy assigned to your organization.
Overview of Sheet's features:
- Create spreadsheets: Create a new spreadsheet or import from your devices or URL.
- Calculation and analysis: Perform calculations on your data set with 400+ predefined functions. You can also create custom functions for your unique use cases.
- Data visualization: Summarize and visualize data with charts and pivot tables.
- Sharing and collaboration: Co-author spreadsheets, add comments, and track changes. Share spreadsheets with collaborators with view, edit, or share permissions.
- Templates: Create planners, reports, trackers, and more with pre-built and customizable templates.
- AI data analyst: Get AI-powered insights, data refining, and formatting suggestions.
Listing age Overview
As soon as you log in, you'll be redirected to the Sheet's listing page. From the listing page, you can:
- Create new spreadsheets or upload spreadsheets from devices or URLs.
- View and access all the spreadsheets created by you, shared with you, and deleted by you.
- View and access all the available spreadsheet templates.
Create a New Spreadsheet
- Log in to https://mail.gov.in
- Select Sheet from the top menu.
- Click the New Spreadsheet button at the top-right corner of Sheet's listing page.
- Double-click Untitled Spreadsheet located on the top-left and enter the desired file name.
Upload / Import Spreadsheets
- Log in to https://mail.gov.in.
- Select Sheet from the top menu.
- Click Upload at the top-right corner of Sheet's listing page.
- From the drop-down, select Upload Spreadsheet to upload spreadsheets from your device or import from URLs.
Supported file formats:
The following file formats are supported in Sheet to import spreadsheets:
.xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, .ods, .csv, .tsv, .pdf, .txt, .xltx, and .sxc
The following file formats in are supported in Sheet to export or download spreadsheets.
.xlsx, .ods, .csv, .tsv, .pdf, .zip

Sharing and Collaboration
Sheet allows you to work together with your team in real-time with options to collaborate, share, and publish spreadsheets.
To share spreadsheets:
- Click Share at the top-right corner of your spreadsheet.
- From the drop-down, select Share.
- In the dialog that appears, enter the email address of the persons with whom you'd like to share and select the desired access level.
- Click Share.
To Publish Spreadsheets
- Click Publish at the top-right corner of your spreadsheet.
- From the drop-down, select Publish.
- In the dialog that appears, select the publish mode and the desired sheet, then click Publish.
Track Changes
Sheet allows you to track changes made to your spreadsheets with version history and audit trail. To view version history:
- Go to File > View Version History.
- From the Version History dialog, you can view all the previous versions, including who made the edit. You can also restore, revert, or download any previous versions.
To view the audit trail
- Go to File > Audit Trail.
- From the Audit Trail dialog, you can view all the edits made to the spreadsheet, including who, where, what, and when.
Visualize Data
Sheet allows you to visualize data through 35+ chart types. You can choose and customize the right chart type for your data set. In addition to charts, you can also use sparklines to visualize data as small in-cell graphs.To insert a chart:
- Select the cell range for which you wish to add a chart.
- Click on the Insert Chart icon from the tool bar and select the appropriate chart for your data.
- You can edit the chart from the options in the side pane.
To insert a sparkline:
- Select the cell range for which you wish to add a sparkline.
- Navigate to Insert > Sparkline > Create Sparkline.
- From the side pane that appears, you can edit or change the type of sparklines.
Summarize Data
Sheet allows you to summarize data sets for easy analysis with pivot tables. To insert a pivot table:
- Select the data range for which you wish to insert the pivot table.
- Navigate to Data > Pivot Table > Create Pivot Table from the toolbar.
- From the side pane that appears, you can drag and drop the required fields and start customizing.
Slicers
Slicers help you quickly filter data in one or more pivot tables simultaneously.To insert a slicer:
- Right-click on the pivot table and select Add Slicer.
- From the slicer dialog, choose the desired fields and click OK.
- From the individual slicers, you can choose the values based on which the pivot table should be filtered.
Images
Sheet allows you to insert images in the cell and over the cells. To insert an image:
- Click on the Insert Image icon the toolbar and select Image in cell or Image over cells.
- From the Image dialog that appears, select where you'd like to upload the image from.
Filter and Sort
Sheet allows you to filter a range of data based on the criteria you choose. To apply a filter:
- Select the data range for which you wish to apply the filter.
- Click on the filter icon from the toolbar and select Create Filter.
- From the drop-down, you can choose the desired criteria and click Filter.
To name a filter:
- Select a filtered range for which you wish to name.
- Click on the filter icon and select Name this filter.
- From the dialog that appears, enter the desired filter name.
To remove a filter:
- Select the filtered range and select Remove filter.
Data Validation
Data validation allows you to restrict entries to your spreadsheet. You can create, edit, and manage data validations. To create a data validation:
- Select the cell in which you wish to insert data validation.
- Navigate to Data > Data Validation > Create Validation from the toolbar.
- From the Data Validation dialog that appears, select the criteria, enter the values, and click OK.
To manage data validations:
- Go to Data > Data Validation > Manage Validation.
- From the Data Validation-Manage Rules dialog, you can copy, edit, or delete the validations.
Data Cleaning
Data cleaning in Sheet allows you to find missing values, duplicate values, inconsistent data, and fix them. To clean your data:
- Go to Data > Data Cleaning and select the desired data cleaning action from the list of options.
